| es_CO |
| dc.description.abstract | Veterinary gastroenterology focuses on the digestive system of animals, including the esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, intestine, colon, and rectum. Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is an irreversible inflammatory disease of the pancreas that can cause pain and dysfunction in dogs. CP may be related to exocrine pancreatic insufficiency and diabetes in long-lived dogs. Diagnosis involves a thorough evaluation that includes medical history, blood tests, assessment of pancreatic enzymes, and imaging tests, with the determination of Canine Pancreatic Lipase Immunoreactivity (cPLI) as a key test. Treatment varies depending on whether pancreatitis is acute or chronic and may involve hospitalization, pain management, food cessation, fluids, antibiotics, and other supportive treatments. The approach should be individualized for each case. Pepe Bedoya, an 11-year-old English Cocker Spaniel, experiences anorexia, diarrhea, and dehydration, raising suspicion of an acute exacerbated autoimmune pancreatitis type 2. Diagnostic tests and clinical findings indicate a wide range of issues related to his digestive system and other systemic conditions. In summary, pancreatitis in dogs is a complex disease that requires accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment to meet the needs of each patient. | es_CO |
