| es_CO |
| dc.description.abstract | In the morning hours of May 4, 2024, at the Hacienda Nápoles Theme Park, in an enclosure with 12 antelopes (Antilope cervicapra), it is reported that a specimen is convulsing. Upon arrival at the site, the animal was in the right lateral recumbent position with no vital signs and no injuries, so the specimen was transferred to the Park's clinic and placed in the necropsy 10 room. During the postmortem procedure, the presence of helminths in the right heart, pleural effusion, and changes in the size and color of the small intestine were observed, in the jejunum. Cardiac filariasis was diagnosed, very compatible with Dirofilaria immitis in the animal, however, there were only microfilariae, since this would not be a definitive host, as the dog is. It is deduced that the cause of death is due to a thromboembolism generated by the microfilaria found, since the constant damage to the endothelium leads to the formation of thrombi by the release of procoagulant molecules. Due to this finding, it is recommended to examine those animals that may be in contact with foci of infection, such as feral dogs, in areas where conditions favor the spread of this filaria. | es_CO |
