Dificultades técnicas e interpretativas y posibles soluciones en la obra para batería For Big Sid de Max Roach.

Abstract

The musical piece 'For big side' is included both in the repertoire and in the drummer training process. It is considered one of the most consistent improvisations of its time in the history of jazz. Its author and performer are Max Roach, a renowned drummer in the history of jazz. Today, this piece keeps being interpreted for the rudimentary richness that it generates. However, it shows certain technical difficulties that need to be addressed in order to achieve an adequate interpretation. This work starts from the following hypothesis: The musical analysis of the work 'For big side', will allow us to delimit the technical problems. By recognizing these problems and acquiring the resources used by Max Roach, a correct interpretation can be achieved. For the development of this work, the theoretical assumptions of Mark Guiliana and John Riley are assumed. These referents address different improvisation problems, and provide certain theoretical and technical foundations. The identification and approach of the technical and interpretative difficulties of the piece ‘For big side’ through musical analysis pointing out possible solutions that facilitate an adequate interpretation, constitutes a great contribution of study for drummers in general.
