The emancipatory project of the Enlightenment, anchored in secular autonomy and the primacy of cognitive-instrumental reason, established a route that historically constricts religion to the private sphere, depriving the public sphere of its semantic capital. This classical secularization, however, has proved to be cognitively incomplete in the face of the challenge of modern pluralism. In response, Jürgen Habermas, through his communicative spin and intersubjective action, proposes a postsecular paradigm that seeks to integrate the moral intuitions of faith into the democratic deliberative process. The fundamental normative mechanism for this inclusion is the translation clause, which requires that religious arguments be poured into a universally accessible language of reason in order to ensure rational consensus and maintain the deontic neutrality of the state. However, the paradox that is discussed is how this clause, while seeking inclusion, tends to maintain the epistemic hegemony of secularism. The requirement imposes an asymmetry in the translation burden on the religious citizen, which carries a risk of semantic reductionism, and transforms the promise of integration into a structural assimilation. Therefore, the reflection that emerges is that deliberative democracy requires a critical reassessment of this requirement, suggesting alternatives that relocate the burden and strengthen the duty of reciprocity and hermeneutic understanding on the part of secular institutions and citizens. This is the only way to transcend mere tolerance towards a genuine mutual learning for political legitimacy in Western democratic societies marked by plurality of worldviews.es_CO
