Abstract

he objective of this research was to analyze the relationship between cognitive impairment and sociodemographic variables in older adults of the "Doce de Octubre" Day Center of the Municipality of Los Patios., Through the application of a standardized Mini Mental State Examination Test (MMSE) ), which allowed to classify in which stage of aging greater cognitive deterioration occurs. For this purpose, a quantitative methodology was used, for this research four variables are located, which are the variables of schooling degree, age, gender and economic stability. In this case, by means of a statistical procedure and the use of sampling techniques (Tómbola), a sample of 64 older adults was obtained from the adult center of the municipality of Los Patios, divided in a significant and proportional way of 16 participants for each of the different sections that are divided in the place. From the results obtained, it is found that most of the older adults of this institution present cognitive deterioration possibly associated with age, gender, level of schooling and economic stability. It is concluded within the research that gender is not a variable that is related to the acquisition of cognitive deterioration, while the variables that influence in having a cognitive deterioration or developing a serious cognitive deterioration are the variables of age, stability economic and finally the variable level of schooling, this being the variable with the greatest impact at the time of performing the analysis of results.
