Abstract: Background: University students are exposed to multiple risk factors that increase the predisposition to the development of chronic diseases that include cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, diabetes and obesity. This situation is due to the modification of lifestyles when entering university life. Aim: To identify the main risk factors present for the development of chronic non-communicable diseases in medical and psychology students of III. IV, V semester of the University of Pamplona, Faculty of Health Cúcuta 2018-l. Material and Methods: Descriptive, prospective, longitudinal study with 218 medical and psychology students studying III, IV and V semester of the Cúcuta campus health faculty, to which surveys and anthropometric measurements were applied. Results: 55% of the respondents had sedentary habits, 21.1% were overweight or obese and 90% had a level of stress. Conclusions: The main risk factors present are physical inactivity, overweight and inadequate nutrition. These findings suggest the need to implement timely promotion and prevention models that reduce the burden of illness and death associated with chronic diseases.
