Caso clínico: fractura de tibia en un paciente felino de 18 meses.

Abstract

This section describes a clinical case received on May 5, 2020 at the Dr. Santiago Reyes Amaya Small Animal Clinic, in the city of Bucaramanga, Colombia. An 18-month-old male feline patient was admitted who, on physical examination and accompanied by complementary examinations, was diagnosed with an oblique fracture of the distal third of the right tibia, with slight displacement and no signs of major systemic complications due to the patient's remission from a veterinary clinic where he had already performed emergency primary treatment from the day before when the trauma occurred. The images obtained by means of simple radiography of the affected area are detailed, and the complementary examinations carried out as adjuncts to the domain of the general state of the patient are described, which consisted of a hematic exam and pre-anesthetic biochemical tests whose results were optimal for the anesthetic process. In addition, the pharmacological therapy implemented from the patient's reception is detailed, and in the three stages, pre-surgical, surgical and postoperative of in-hospital care. The procedure applied in the surgical intervention is also reviewed, which consisted of the placement of an intramedullary needle that was reinforced with a type II external skeletal fixator. The monitoring of the physiological constants and the clinical signs that this was carried out during the entire hospital stay.
