Abstract

The case of a canine is reported Bibi entered the veterinary hospital FMVZ - UNESP, the owner reported that, during the previous day, the animal presented spasticity of all limbs and generalized tremor without the loss of consciousness, so it was referred to veterinary cardiology area. Cardiac evaluation of the animal was performed and anamnesis lead to syncope, easy fatigue and sporadic cough. Physical examination revealed grade III / VI murmur in mitral focus, normal blood pressure and alterations in chest radiograph, as well as in the electrocardiogram and echocardiogram. The diagnosis was made by echocardiogram and atrial septal defect was determined, the treatment was based on enalapril 0.25mg / kg every 12 hours and check ups every six months. A new control was performed where blood biochemistry and haemoleucogram and echocardiogram were performed, where thanks to the pharmacological treatment managed in the patient it has been kept stable, without getting any type of alteration in its table, taking into account that the mechanism of action of enalapril it is to inhibit the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACEI) (Durán, (2012), thus decreasing the afterload, since by reducing the systemic vascular resistance the left-right short circuit decreases, avoiding worsening in the animal's frame.
