Uretrostomía en felino criollo de 4 años por urolitiasis vesical reincidente.

Abstract

A Creole cat named Ramoncito, 5 years old and neutered, comes to the office. The owners report that the patient has not urinated for several days, the animal is evaluated and at the time of the examination there is obvious abdominal palpation pain and difficulty urinating. The patient was diagnosed with bladder urolithiasis and partial urinary obstruction and treated specifically pharmacologically. The patient was sent home with antibiotics and pain therapy in addition to a special diet. The patient re-entered a month later with a very similar symptomatology, showing decay, lack of appetite and dysuria, which is why they proceeded directly to take samples to perform all the relevant paraclinics (hepatic, renal function, blood count and platelet count). Taking into account the patient's youth and the benefits that it could bring in the long term, we could make the decision to perform a perianal urethrostomy, this in order to eliminate possible obstructions throughout the life of the animal. The intervention was performed under inhalation anesthesia. This intervention did not show any eventualities. Recovery was satisfactory, returning to normal urination 24 hours after surgery using a urinary catheter and discharging medical 4 days post intervention. The patient attended the clinic 10 days after discharge from the clinic for review of the wound and cleaning, the good healing and the success of the surgical process were found. Urinary obstruction can be defined as the entire impediment of low pressure urinary flow in any part of the urinary tract, this block can also be acute or chronic, partial or complete.
