Abstract: A prospective quantitative experimental study was carried out at the Veterinary Clinic of the University of Pamplona, Norte de Santander, Colombia, with the objective of establishing the differences in the temperature variables of the patients submitted to surgical interventions through the imposition of physical methods of thermoregulation such as “gloving” and the use of “thermal blankets” to avoid heat dissipation; For this purpose, a total of 15 canines were divided into 3 study groups of 5 animals, one group with gloving, a second group with thermal blanket and a third control group, in each group temperature control was taken before, during and after the anesthetic and surgical event, all of them were submitted to the orchiectomy procedure subject to general anesthesia. During the surgical intervention the gloved group showed better results with 80% of patients in normothermia and 20% in mild hypothermia, the thermal blanket group only 20% maintained normothermia and 80% mild hypothermia, in addition, in the control group as well as in the thermal blanket group only 20% maintained normothermia, but 60% presented mild hypothermia and the remaining 20% moderate hypothermia. After performing the synthesis until the patient recovers the quadripestation, a decrease in temperature was observed in the gloved group and the control group. In the gloved group 40% of the patients continued in normothermia and the other 60% in mild hypothermia, the thermal blanket group remained the same as the surgical intervention (20% normothermia and 80% mild hypothermia), finally, in the control group all the patients suffered hypothermia, 40% mild and the other 60% moderate. It can be concluded that the use of gloving in short surgical interventions obtains better results than isolation with the thermal blanket, in the same way, it can be complemented with physical methods of active thermoregulation to avoid post-surgical hypothermia.
