| Abstract: | On September 10, it was observed that the specimen Julieta from the Tayras enclosure (Eira barbara) of the Parque Tematico Hacienda Nápoles presented 5/5 lameness of the right hind limb, showing pain and weakness. Treatment was initiated with Meloxicam® at a dose of 0.2 mg/kg orally every 24 hours and Pregabalin® at a dose of 2 mg/kg orally every 12 hours for two days. Despite the treatment i nstituted, no favorable evolution was observed, so it was decided to perform physical chemical restriction to address the specimen and perform a general clinical examination, taking blood samples for blood count and blood biochemistry. During the physical examination, it was found that the animal had inflammation of the right hind limb and a fracture was suspected. No wounds or other injuries were found. Regarding the results of the blood samples, a slight thrombocytopenia was evident. a leukocytosis with n eutrophilia, decrease in Urea and BUN (Blood Uremic Nitrogen). Treatment was started with Clindamycin® at a dose of 8 mg/kg twice a day and Pregabalin® at a dose of 2 mg/kg every 12 hours along with in hospital management. The patient's evolution did not i mprove and she died on September 1 4 . A necropsy was performed and it was evident that the specimen had a subclinical respiratory pathology. Macroscopically, severe and diffuse congestion and the presence of multifocal nodules in the lung parenchyma were found, there were necrotic appearing lesions of soft tissue in the distal area of the right hind limb and a fracture at the level of the tarsus. Samples were taken for histopathology where it was determined that the specimen he had frib r inopurulent bacterial bronchopneumonia with secondary septicemia. |
