| Abstract: | The perineal hernia consists of the separation of the muscular fibers that compose the pelvic diaphragm, giving way to the displacement of structures of the abdominal and/or pelvic region towards the perineal region, generating the deformation of the area and triggering consequences such as incarceration and/or visceral strangulations, bladder, among others; which translates into symptoms such as dysuria, difficulty to defecate, tenesmus, abdominal pain, decay, lack of appetite. A 9 year old male canine, whole, Shih-Tzu breed was admitted to the Clinica Protectora de Animales for consultation due to few stools in the form of olives and difficulty to defecate. Clinical examination revealed a bulging of the perineal region on the right side and later clinical imaging and laboratory findings showed a perineal hernia on the right side as a consequence of bacterial prostatitis and cystitis. Medical treatment for cystitis and bacterial prostatitis was managed and later corrective surgical herniorrhaphy and prophylactic orchiectomy were performed. The patient evolved favorably to the procedure, good healing; however, he developed renal alterations. |
