| Abstract: | In the present work, a clinical case is described that was presented to the outpatient clinic of the Vetmedical veterinary clinic in the city of Pamplona, Norte de Santander, a mixed-breed canine, a 3-year-old female, neutered, weighing 31 kg, identified as sheyla. Swelling was reported in the left lateral area of her face with the appearance of a soft, painless and fluctuating mass that gradually increased in size. Due to the information provided by the owner and the physical analysis, it was decided to perform complementary studies such as hemoleukogram, blood biochemistry (health profile), and laterolateral and ventrodorsal radiographic projections of the head and neck. The presence of sialocele was confirmed by puncture-aspiration where a transparent and viscous liquid was obtained. The cause of sialoceles is difficult to identify, however, it is considered to be caused by trauma, strangulating straps, bite wounds, chewing foreign materials or sialolithiasis, obstructing the salivary gland or excretory duct. As saliva leaks from the torn salivary duct or gland, it accumulates in the tissue and initiates an intense inflammatory response. To resolve this condition, the patient undergoes surgery depending on the affected gland, in this case the parotid gland, so a parotidectomy was performed resolutely. |
