Abstract: | The mining industry in Colombia represents a major source of pollution today, because in many cases this activity is carried out illegally, this is reflected in great damage to ecosystems and human health, the use of mercury in gold explotation for the separation and extraction of this mineral from the rocks, This is of great concern because this mining activity is affecting the human health of the inhabitants who live in these areas and depend on these water sources for their livelihoods, so that without proper control, it ends up contaminating the fauna and flora of the area and affecting the quality of life of its inhabitants. It is necessary to have a stricter control of this mining activity in order to mitigate these damages and have a better disposal of this waste, to ensure that the welfare of the nearby population is not affected, as well as to reduce the damage to the ecosystem. |
