The case of a 5-year-old canine of the Shnauzer breed with continuous epileptic conditions was presented, diagnosed thanks to physical examination, anamnesis and complementary studies such as PCR, glycemia and liver and kidney function tests performed at the Mónica Villegas veterinary clinic which served to rule out any other cause of these nervous conditions and give an orientation towards any of the existing epilepsy etiologies. An adequate literature review was made to correlate each sign that the patient showed and to be able to arrive in this way to determine the etiology of the neurological episodes. The patient was admitted as an emergency because he had been presenting nervous symptoms during the course of the day. Adequate stabilization of the patient with anticonvulsant drugs was performed, the blood count showed a decrease in the total number of platelets or thrombocytopenia, glycemia within normal values and no hepatic or renal impairment. After hospitalization, an analysis of serum phenobarbital was performed since it was stated that the dog had been treated in another veterinary center with that drug. The daily dose of phenobarbital was readjusted thanks to knowing its serum values, which generated an excellent response from the patient.es_CO
